Tripp the TriPawd Calendar Model
Tripp (a.k.a. Mr. Biggs) is one lucky dog!!
Tripp was brought into the Salina Animal
Shelter in September 2011 with an injured
right leg. This leg was not functioning at all,
and a scar about 4 inches long was visible
right down the front of his leg. The story of
Tripp is one of abuse and neglect…with one
of those happy endings that reminds us all
why we help in the rescue of dogs!!
Tripp was hit by a car about a year prior to
him coming to our shelter. His leg was
broken and had to be repaired using a rod
and pins. Unfortunately the leg did not heal
and became infected. This is when his
"owners" decided to tie him up to a tree in

the backyard, and this is where he spent the next year…tethered to a tree.
The neighbors of Tripp took it upon themselves to ask the owners if they
could have him. Knowing they couldn’t keep him, but wanting to get him out
of his cruel and neglectful situation, they brought him into the shelter. And
this is where his story of happiness and delight began!!
Tripp quickly won over the hearts of the volunteers and staff at our shelter.
He loved to go out into the dog park and play with the other dogs, but even
better than that was the fact he LOVED people. He wanted to be our "buddy"
and we couldn't say no to him, of course!! He followed us around the dog
park, played fetch, and mingled with the the other dogs although sometimes
it felt like he really wasn't a dog... more of a person! We all agreed!
The Rocky Mountain Lab Rescue of Colorado was contacted about Tripp.
They had taken several of our rescue dogs in the past, and they also couldn't
resist the story of Tripp
So, arrangements were made for Tripp’s leg to be
amputated, 3 weeks of recovery in a foster home,
and he would be on his way to Colorado. The
surgery went extremely well, his foster family fell
in love with him, and within 3 days in Colorado he
was adopted.
Keep reading, it gets even better!!
Tripp was adopted by a couple in Colorado who
was looking for a companion for them and their
20 year old cat. The stipulation was that he had
to get along with the cat. And get along he does!
He enjoys frequent face baths from the cat with
sighs and moans to go along with it!! He has also
put a spell on his new adoptive family. He gets to
sleep on the recliner, ride in the front seat of the
truck, explore the wonderful outdoors of
Colorado, go to work with his owner, be a frequent
guest at neighborhood gatherings, and sleep in front of the fire place. And
those are just a few of the perks of his new life!
What more could a dog ask for? How about winning a contest??!! That’s right.
Tripp is the official Mr. December in the 2012 Tripawd Calendar. He was
entered in the contest by his “people” and he won!! So, now he is a celebrity,
and we are all soooo proud to know him. He is definitely a one of a kind dog….
or maybe he is a person in fur on 4 legs…that sounds more like it, and I’m
sure Tripp would agree!!
This is the winning photo, don't you think Tripp looks fantastic??
