Is there a leash law?
All dogs must be on a leash or in a fenced yard at all times. Even if the owner
is outside with the dog, on their property, the dog must be on a leash or
fenced in a yard.

A cat is roaming my neighbourhood. Will you pick it up?
There is no leash law for cats; they must be confined for us to get them. The
Shelter has live traps that can be borrowed free of charge for catching stray
considered your property. If you then bring the cat into the shelter it is
considered a release.

My apartment building doesn't allow pets, or I can longer care
for my pets. Will you come to get them?
We do not pick up owned animals. Owners must bring their pet to the Animal
Shelter to release it to us. The release fee is $2.00 per animal for Saline
County residents and $15.00 per animal for non-residents. Please be aware
that we cannot guarantee placement of every animal released to the shelter,
and they may have to be euthanized.

What is the cost to euthanize a pet?
The euthanasia fee is $10.00 per animal for Saline County residents; and
$30.00 per animal for non-residents. Owners must make an appointment for
this service.

What should I do if I see an animal that was/has been, hit by a
car?
Please call the Salina Animal Shelter; our staff responds to all calls
regarding sick or injured animals within the City of Salina and Saline County.

My pet needs its shots, can I get them at The Shelter?
Rabies shots need to be given by a licensed veterinarian, and cannot be
given at The Shelter. Many other shots can be purchased and administered
at home, if not also given by a veterinarian.
